GIRLSET Discusses Rebrand, New Music, and Their Evolution as a Group
With the release of their comeback, “Commas”, JYP and Republic Records’ first global girl group, GIRLSET, is ready to take on the world. The girls initially debuted in 2024 under the name VCHA after competing for a spot in the group on the survival show A2K. In August of 2025, Camila, Lexi, Kendall, and Savanna announced their decision to come back under a new moniker with a more mature concept.
Group Chat Mag was fortunate enough to be able to sit in on a press conference with Camila, Lexi, and Savanna where they discussed their new name, “Commas,” and their bright future.
While rumors had been circulating for a while that the group was going to rebrand after the departure of two members, fans officially found out when the group’s new name was announced. “I think changing our name was definitely like a big decision,” said Camila. The members agreed that if they were really committed to rebranding and moving into a new era, changing their name was a necessary step in the right direction. As for what GIRLSET means to them, Camila went on to say, “It basically means that we’re setting who we want to be no matter what anyone says.”
We asked the members about their A2K auditions and how they feel they’ve grown as artists since their early days.
“Savanna: I think we’ve just grown so much since the first audition. I know me, when I look back at that, I just cringe so hard. I think from then, we just honed our skills for sure. As artists, especially now, we’ve grown into artists and have really been able to figure out creatively what we want to be. Just in every aspect, I think we’ve grown.”
“Lexi: Back then, it was so raw in a way and I guess we still are, you know? But we’re more polished.“
GIRLSET’s comeback “Commas” was notable for how different it was to their previous releases as VCHA. The members were excited to pivot to a more western sound for the new era and work with notable American producers. When asked about the song’s message, Savanna said, “I think it’s a song that shows a message of self worth and really just not needing validation from anyone else just knowing who you are and staying true to who you are no matter what.” More than anything, the girls expressed that what they enjoyed most about the song was what it represented for them as a group. The comeback was a testament to their dedication and they’re excited to put out the other songs they recorded together.
As VCHA, the girls were able to open for TWICE on their Ready To Be World Tour. We asked if they had any plans to perform live together as GIRLSET in the near future.
“Savanna: I think in the future, in the year to come, most likely we will perform live because we’re going to be releasing a lot more songs. We’ll have a lot to show. We’re super excited to finally get to perform as GIRLSET.”
Fans of GIRLSET had high hopes for their rebrand and they were not left disappointed. In the future, they can expect to hear more great music and get to know the members as they grow into pop superstars.
