Alt-pop ‘it-girl’, Charlotte Sands has returned to the scene to enter her new era, and we could not be more excited.

‘Neckdeep’ is Sands’ latest release, dropped on August 1st amidst her current run on the idobi Radio Summer School Tour.

‘Neckdeep’ is the second song of the new era, following recent single ‘HUSH’, and is about the frustration and desperation that comes along with the discovery that you are no longer the priority in your relationship and the idea of simply wanting to be seen.

It captures the chaos that comes with being pushed past your breaking points and constantly existing on the edge of helplessness and revenge.”

The first verses of the track demonstrate the classic hyperpop sound that we all grew to know VERY well last summer, with vague elements of heavier themes appearing in the form of some distorted guitar sounds breaking through the verses- almost demonstrating the cracks where initial feelings of helplessness begin to turn to revenge plans within the fore-mentioned relationship.

The chorus of the track showcases raw angst and has a grittier sound to it, as the desperation and revenge elements now fully take over. The lyrics begin to call out the person that the song is aimed at, with quotes like “You make it look so hard to want me” and “Why would you tell me that you’re Neckdeep when you’re really one foot out?” almost providing that sense of clarity that the problem doesn’t lie within you, and in fact with the other person’s behaviour.

The hyperpop sound begins to fade towards the end of the song, as the track becomes more guitar heavy, with an almost nostalgic pop-punk feel mixed with the angst of the lyrics providing the perfect listen.

Last year we had BRAT summer, this year it might be time for the alt girls to take over the scene. BRAT-Rock summer pending….
